Tilman Pass Trek 22 Days

Tilman pass trek is one of the challenging treks in Nepal. It is situated in between the Langtang trekking region and Panch Pokhari trekking region near Tibet border and Nepal on the altitude of 5,360m. It is also known as Jugal Panch Pokhari Trek which is a set of five small lakes. It is a place near the temple of Vishnu is a place of pilgrimage for Hindus from the neighboring Helambu region.

It offers you to the remote Jugal Himal which associates the Himalaya from Kanchanjunga in the east to Dhaulagiri in the west. This trek is a high altitude trek which was introduced recently but none tourist trekking trail in Langtang region.

The trek starts with a drive of 7-8 hours from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi and ends in Chautara via Tilman Pass (5350m).  The duration of this trek is 15 days. The trail passes through Kyanjin Gompa which has a majestic panoramic view of Naya Khanga Himal ranges, Ganjala, and Langtang Lirung (7277m). You will pass through George of Langtang Khola and green forest with pine trees, Rhododendron flowers, orchids, and many other species. You will also pass through golden-yellow paddy fields and sub-tropical vegetation. You can see different wild animals and birds while passing through Langtang National Park. Some of them are: Mountain Thars, Jackal, Monkeys, Bear, Leopard, wild boar, Pheasant, and Peacock.

You can also see the Red Panda which is on the verge of extinction. One can also see Himalayan views of Gaurishanker, Langshisa, Dorje Lakpa (6700m), Ganesh Himal (7422m), Langtang Himal, and Yala peak (5520m). Keep your sight out for families of playful langur monkeys and Blue Poppy flowers.

This trek was named after a pioneer British explorer H.W. Tillman (1898-1977) who had explored the Himalaya in the mid 20th century. The people living here are from Tamang, Sherpa and Gurung community. They have Tibetan culture mixed with Nepali lifestyle.

You can see a glimpse of Tamang and Sherpa people practicing long religious culture, and also their dress and language. As most of the inhabitants are of Tamang ethnic group, it is rewarded as Tamang Heritage culture. You can also visit the Organic Yak Cheese Factory.

It is a difficult trek which includes snow climbing and difficult passes in Himalaya. The best season to trek Tilman pass is from the middle of March- late June and from mid September- until the middle of December. One should have good physical fitness to trek Tilman.

    Many of our treks and climbs send daily internet dispatches, and we receive updates from our guides while they are in the field. The best place to reach a loved one is through our office.

    Will there be any power source for charging batteries, etc. available throughout the trek?
    For lodge-bassed treks, many of the lodges have power available with typical Asian plugs (two nail like horizontal prongs) and offer to recharge for a fee.
