The Manaslu Circuit Trek is considered as the best treks in Nepal. It is also known as a teahouse trek. Mt. Manaslu (8156) m is the eight highest peaks in the world. The Manaslu Circuit Trek lies 100 km northwest from Kathmandu Valey. Manaslu is in the Gorkha district between the Annapurna Mountains and the Langtang valley. The area falls under the restricted area of Manaslu region. It is famous for its Glacier Lake, cultural diversity, and enchanting flora and fauna. The Manaslu Circuit area has six climatic zones. It was opened to foreign climbers in the early 1990s but the first American climber “Charlie Mace” climbed Manaslu in 1997.

The trek starts at Aurghat and ends at Besisahar. The Manaslu Circuit Trek duration can be 18-20 days. You will be going through one of the highest mountains passes Larkya La Pass (7892) m is decorated with Tibetan prayers flags. It offers you to explore the splendid mountains like Annapurna range, Ganesh Himal, Himal Chuli (7983) m, Shringi (7187) m, Annapurna I (8091m), Gangapurna Peak (7455m), Mt. Machhapuchhre(6997m), and Ngadi Chuli (7871) m. You will pass through Rhododendrons, hemlock, stormy rivers, Hindu and Buddhist culture, wildlife, alpine woods like pine, birch, cedar, and so on. 110 species of birds, 3 reptiles, 33 mammals, 110 species of birds, and 11 butterflies have been recorded in the Manaslu Conservation region. If you’re lucky enough, you will get a chance to see Snow-Leopard and Red Panda.

You will see animals like Himalayan musk deer, blue sheep, Asian black bear, and so on. Birds including Kalij, Golden eagle, koklass pheasants, and many more can be seen. You will also travel to villages like Soti Khola, Dovan to Dharamsala, Namrung and many others.

During the trek, you can observe an interesting mix of authentic Hindu and Tibetan-style Buddhist villages. The people living here are of a different ethnic group like Gurung, Magar, Limbu, and Rai. You will see Gurung villages with rice and millet terraces. You can encounter chortens, mani walls, bridges, and Buddhist shrines during your trek. One can also visit Milarepa’s cave. The trek achieved popularity in 2010 when tea houses were built.

You need to be physically fit to trek Manaslu circuit. The best time to trek Manaslu circuit in March, April, May, and September, October, November when the sky is clear and the temperature is favorable. During October, the whole country celebrates the Nepalese main festival Dashain and Tihar. You can also join locals and add extra memory to your trip. While the month of December and January are considered to be cold months. You also need Annapurna Conservation Area Permit and Manaslu Conservation Area Project Permit.

You can extend your trip by adding Tsum Valley to your route if you have longer holidays. Tsum valley was restricted for tourists, is now the most attraction for trekkers and tourists.

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu and Trip Preparation

    Will there be any access to a satellite phone? If yes then what would be the charges for usage?
    Yes, most of our expedition guides take satellite phones and you are welcome to use these at wifi and local moble call Most often, your guide will post daily dispatches on the Nhh website in which your friends and family can follow your progress.

    I want to contact my friend or relative, who is on one of your trips, how can I reach them?
    Many of our treks and climbs send daily internet dispatches, and we receive updates from our guides while they are in the field. The best place to reach a loved one is through our office.

    Will there be any power source for charging batteries, etc. available throughout the trek?
    For lodge-bassed treks, many of the lodges have power available with typical Asian plugs (two nail like horizontal prongs) and offer to recharge for a fee. 

    We can cater for special power requirements at an extra cost or advise on the purchase of a suitable personal solar charging system - please enquire with our office.
